Toronto Nano Chat Rules!

  1. Respect each other - this is an all-ages, all welcoming chat.
  2. Welcome Newbs - welcome and engage newbs. You can be involved in all sorts of in-jokes, and bantering all you like. But please try to make it 50/50. Banter with new people.
  3. Introduce yourself if new - Lurk. Listen. People are friendly in chat... just insane. So introduce yourself. Get involved.
  4. Give One Another the Benefit of the Doubt - If you believe someone is dissing you, stop and think! Don't take them seriously yet! We pick on people because we love them. Don't take it as an attack, usually it isn't meant to be. For 99% of the time, it is done in playful jabs. Trust me. Ask how many times Errol has been killed in a novel.
  5. If something makes you uncomfortable, Speak up - We know we can get out of hand. So if we make you uncomfortable, please tell us. We will restrain. :D
  6. Restrain yourself when appropriate - We're not going to tell you not to swear, not to mention sex, or not to hit on Drew. But take a look around you. Who is in chat? Are there thirty people watching you flirt and tease? Do you really have to swear at the world because you got a paper cut? Be aware of your audience. If it's only you and one other person in chat, do what you want. But if someone walks into the room, think about the impression you're giving – especially to chat newbs or parents of younger wrimo's.
  7. Don't sexually flirt with someone you don't know - We don't want to get in trouble if you happen to be a stalker trying to find a 12 year old. Even if the other person is returning the advances, just don't.
  8. Be nice to foreigners - We get a lot of people that aren't from Toronto. Be nice to them. Wait till they know you. Then trash talk them. But don't let their first impression be of trash talking.
  9. Listen to the mods - they abide by stricter rules than you do. So you can tell on them.
  10. If in doubt - stick with PG-13

Toronto Nano Chat Mod Rules!

If you are a mod, you must abide by these rules.
  1. Always engage newbies in conversation
  2. No talking about sex - you don't have to stop sex talk, mods just can't get involved
  3. No bad language - You don't need to stop bad language, just don't exemplify or encourage it
  4. No trashtalking - depending on how bad it is, may want to stop it
  5. Don't talk about your wordcount - this doesn't mean you can't encourage people about their wordcount! If someone asks about yours, keep it low key and don't raise WC yourself.
  6. No flirting
  7. No talking badly about any other user - except Errol. :D
  8. Stop hostility
  9. Link all newbs to this page and say, "Welcome! Please read the chat rules: http://www.torontonano.org/WordWar/chatrules.php"

But how do I PM someone?

Click on their name in the user list. You will see a little box with PM. Click it. A new tab starts up. Chat away.

How do I change my username?

Use "/nick Username"

But that just changes my username to "Username". I want it to be something else!
